About our director

Laura Lewis began directing the chorus in May 2010.  This is her first time as front line director, but she was prepared well by her ten years of training as an assistant director and nearly twenty as baritone section leader under our former director, Julie Palagi.  Laura has been either a groupie or a member of Sweet Adelines since her mother joined in 1980.  During that time, she has served in a number of positions, including chapter president, emcee, choreographer, and management team member.   She is an experienced quartet singer, having competed in five different quartets at the regional level, including her current quartet, Out of Sequins.  She has had training in theater arts (including from her father, a retired theater arts professor), as well as 7 years of vocal lessons and all the training 30 years in Sweet Adelines can give.  In her other life, Laura has over ten years of experience teaching adult learners as an adjunct instructor of history at Aims Community College, where she works full-time in the Institutional Research office. Laura is delighted The Blend has given her the opportunity to spread her wings as a director.  She looks forward to developing her skills and helping The Blend to continue its tradition of musical excellence.
